Create a Better Tomorrow

This mural painting was commissioned by the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) in effort to revitalize the Idora neighborhood in Youngstown, Ohio. I met with community organizers, residents of the area and the building owner to develop a theme and design for this mural. It is an image that has the actual neighborhood residents painted into the design. They are shown painting the words “CREATE A BETTER TOMORROW”.

Project Timeline

The timeline for creating the mural begins with a two-week period dedicated to consulting the community, holding interest meetings, and collaborating with YNDC to discuss the mural design. Following this, photographic references of community residents are captured over two days to inspire the artwork. The next two weeks are spent designing the mural, incorporating the input and feedback gathered during the initial phase. With the design finalized, logistics are arranged over the course of one week, including securing supplies and lifts needed for the project. The mural is then drawn onto the wall in a single day, serving as the foundation for the final step—a seven-day effort to paint the mural, bringing the community’s vision to life.

Community Involvement

Focus groups and community meetings were held to involve the community in the mural’s design and process. Community input was taken into consideration when painting the mural. The mural was painted solely by Jeremy Jarvis. However, residents of the local community were used as the subjects in the mural.
